"Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI)" is a transformation of erstwhile Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-1. ATARI, Zone-1 was established by the ICAR, New Delhi at Ludhiana to monitor and review lab to land programme. Presently, this institute has been entrusted to actively engage in planning, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating the ICAR sponsored transfer of technology projects implemented through Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The mandate of the ATARI is:

1. Coordination and monitoring of technology application and Frontline Extension Education Programs
2. Strengthening Agricultural Extension Research and Knowledge Management
