Training of Trainers for Skill Development in Agriculture Organized at ATARI, Ludhiana

A three day training of trainers for skill development in agriculture was organized at ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana in collaboration with Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI) during December 2-4, 2019. In this program, trainers were assessed on 25 job roles for conducting more than 100 skill development courses for developing entrepreneurs.  In the inaugural address, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Principal Scientist ATARI, Ludhiana and the Course Coordinator welcomed the house and briefed about the program. The Chief Guest, Dr. J. S. Mahal, Director (Extension), PAU, Ludhiana highlighted the importance of institutionalized skill development not only in agriculture but also in day to day life. He shared few real life experiences emphasizing the role of skilled manpower in the nation building process. Dr. H. S. Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI, Ludhiana stressed on the importance of skill development for harvesting the benefits of demographic dividend India is experiencing. He also highlighted the current skill development scenario of the nation. Dr. R. K. Rana, Principal Scientist, ATARI, Ludhiana motivated the participants to clear all the doubts and resolve all the issues related to organizing skill development programs in agriculture. He also appreciated the role of skill development in modernizing agriculture and allied activities in India. Mr. Rajkumar, Manager Training of Trainers, ASCI informed the house about the role of ASCI in bridging the skill gap in agriculture of the country.

More than 60 scientists/faculty members of KVKs, SAUs and ICAR institutes of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh participated in this programme.
