Zonal Review workshop of Farmer FIRST Programme and ARYA

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana organized Zonal Review Workshop of Farmer FIRST Programme (FFP) and Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA) to review the activities conducted during 2019-20 by the seven FFP centres and 10 ARYA centres under Zone-I. Due to COVID 19 pandemic, the workshop was organised online through Google Meet. Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana in his remarks emphasised that a mechanism should be ensured so that beneficiary selected under FFP should carry the intervention after withdrawal of project. He also stressed that farm families selected under this programme must be involved as active partners at every stage for improving the livelihood security in a sustainable way. He also stressed that training under ARYA project should be of longer period for entrepreneurship development amongst rural youth and may be linked with FPOs for marketing their produce. Further, he stressed upon promotion of income generating activities, resource conservation technologies, diversification and intensification for doubling the income of farmers.

 

Dr. Arvind Kumar, Nodal Officer, FFP, Zone-I highlighted the project modalities and their evaluation by different committees that are constituted according to FFP guidelines. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Rana, Nodal Officer, ARYA, Zone-I also briefed about guidelines for implementing ARYA project by the new ARYA centres.

The Principal Investigators of seven FFP centres and ten ARYA centres of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand presented the technical and financial progress of the project.  More than 50 PIs, Co-PIs, Heads of KVKs, Scientists of ATARI, Ludhiana and entrepreneurs participated in review workshop of FFP and ARYA.
