Online Workshop of TDC-NICRA Organized by ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana

ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana organized the Zonal Annual Review and Action Plan workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under Technology Demonstration Component of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project using online meeting platform “Google Meet”.

Dr. G. Ravindra Chary, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad highlighted the need for enhancing the visibility of TDC-NICRA activities for encouraging convergence with line departments and other stakeholders. He also emphasized the importance of participative approach for the success the project. He urged KVK personnel to document horizontal spread and impacts of the technological interventions to assess the sustainability of the project activities. Dr. Chary also encouraged KVKs to prepare themselves for the post-COVID-19 challenges and opportunities.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, briefly talked about the achievements of KVKs Zone-I under NICRA project and guided KVKs about the future strategy. He asked participant to popularize the concept of nutritional garden to ensure nutritional security of the farm family, especially in the wake of COVID-19. He talked about increasing area under Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) in Punjab due to anticipated labour shortage and urged KVKs of the state to provide technical backstopping to as many farmers as possible. Likewise, he advised KVKs to record precise field data so as to convince farmers and policy makers about effectiveness of technological interventions.

Dr. R. K. Arora, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST, Jammu termed participatory approach as the key to success and asked the KVKs for all out efforts for involving farmers groups at grass root level. He urged KVKs to work in tandem with all the stakeholders for better implementation of the project.

More than 40 participants including Scientists and NICRA project staff of ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad; Programme Coordinators, Nodal Scientist and project staff of NICRA KVKs and Scientists from organizing institute have participated. Presentations were made on the consolidated achievements of the project since inception as well as the action plan for current year. Detailed discussions were held among the participant and the action plans for all the KVKs were chalked out.
