Virtual Review Meeting of Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa organized

ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Ludhiana Punjab and Indian Meteorological Department,(IMD), New Delhi jointly organized the “Virtual Review Meeting of Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa” on 22nd September 2020.

 

In his inaugural address, Dr. Randhir Singh, Assistant Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, New Delhi emphasized on proper and effective implementation of the activities under the GKMS for the farming communities’ benefit in the regime of climate change. He also stressed on the farmers’ uniform feedback and capacity development as the first and foremost requirement.

 

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana Punjab briefed about the Krishi Vigyan Kendras’ involvement in first and second phase with the collaboration of IMD under the jurisdiction of the State Agricultural Universities of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and  ICAR Institute.  In the inaugural session he appraised about significance of AAS, weather forecast and climate change and further emphasized on the role of weather in agriculture.

Dr K K Singh, Head, AASD, IMD, New Delhi, highlighted the status of DAMU and mentioned that AAS should be started at block level. He guided the SMS (Agromet) to promote tools and techniques to disseminate the advisories to each and every farmer of village. He also suggested to KVKs to follow the SOP (Standard operating Procedures) for the preparation of AgroMet Advisory Bulletins and obtain the soil moisture observations regularly.

Dr. Surender Paul, Scientist E, IMD, Chandigarh, laid emphasis on the efficient need of communication between subject matter specialists and farmers. He also suggested that database of cropping systems, techniques adopted by farmers, etc. should be collected and maintained for effective advisories at micro level.

Dr. S.C Bhan DDGM, AAS Division , IMD, New Delhi acted as a Chairman of the technical session and guided the scientists of KVKs to work at ground level successfully for the benefit of the farmers. All the KVKs selected under the project presented their achievements made so far during the last year under the project of Gramin Krishi Mausam Seva.
