Interface of KVKs with CIPHET

An interphase of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana was organized with the ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana on January 13, 2021. The interphase aimed at synergizing the strengths of both the institutions to serve the farmers in a better way. About 50 Scientists of the KVKs and ICAR-CIPHET took part in the interphase. Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana was the chief guest and Dr Rajbir Singh, Director ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana was the special guest of the program.

Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET welcomed all the participants and explained the role of post-harvest engineering and technology in agriculture and allied sector. He emphasized the need to reduce post-harvest losses and drudgery in agriculture and promote value addition to enhance farmers’ income. He also appreciated the role of KVKs in speedy transfer of technology at the grass root level.

Dr Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana acknowledged the need of such interphases with other KVKs of the Zone. He urged ICAR-CIPHET to extend technical help to KVKs in establishment of model agro-processing centres. He also encouraged KVK scientists to update themselves in emerging aspects of agricultural technology for catering to the needs of the farm family and enabling them to meet evolving challenges in a much better manner.

Dr Indrajeet Singh, VC, GADVASU, Ludhiana encouraged the scientists to have a broad vision to serve the society and help the farmers in transforming their lives. He highlighted the role of animal husbandry in the prosperity of farmers. He added that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed between GADVASU and CIPHET to encourage collaboration in research and extension activities in the areas of engineering interventions in animal husbandry especially the animal shelter, animal feed, fisheries etc.

Demonstration of pilot plants for several post-harvest technologies was also organized during the interphase to showcase the working of different agricultural processing machines.
