Annual Workshop of NICRA for Zone-I Organized

ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana organized an online Annual Workshop of National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project for Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Zone-I from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.

Dr. S. K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR highlighted the process of selection of districts under NICRA based on associated climatic risk and vulnerability. He emphasized on creating ground level vibrations with our technologies and interventions to highlight efforts needed for promoting climate resilient agriculture. He urged the KVKs and entire team of NICRA to revisit the approaches in implementing the project considering accumulated learning and available resources.

Dr. J. P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu & Srinagar mentioned about farmers experiences he has witnessed about the success of NICRA interventions. He highlighted few farming examples of Jammu region which are paving the way for ‘One District One Commodity’ concept. He was delighted to mention that NICRA was not playing part in betterment of livelihood of the villager but also in social mobilization through institutions like VCRMC.

Dr. A. K. Mehta, Former ADG (Extension), ICAR emphasized the need for enhancing the visibility of NICRA activities for encouraging convergence with line departments and other stakeholders. He also emphasized the importance of participative approach for the success the project.

Dr. S. Bhaskar, ADG (A, AF & CC), ICAR has highlighted the importance of documenting impacts of NICRA interventions for convincing policy makers to invest in such projects. He also emphasized that crop diversification is crucial for developing resilient in the agricultural systems along with integrated farming systems.

Dr. V. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad talked about the role of convergence in mobilizing funds for agricultural activities and urged KVKs to put more efforts in establishing linkages with development departments.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, briefly talked about the achievements of KVKs Zone-I under NICRA project and highlighted the strategy and vision he has for the future of NICRA in the Zone. He urged KVKs to work in tandem with all the stakeholders for better implementation and mobilizing additional funds for the project activities.

About 70 participants including Scientists and NICRA project staff of ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad; Programme Coordinators, Nodal Scientist and project staff of NICRA KVKs and Scientists from the organizing institute have participated. Presentations were made on the consolidated achievements of the project since inception as well as the action plan for current year. Detailed discussions were held among the participant and the action plans for all the KVKs were chalked out.
