National Webinar on Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income organised

National webinar on “Vegetables for Nutrition Security and Enhancing Farmers’ Income” was organised by KVK, Trantaran with theme on enhancing the income of the farmers through quality seed production, processing and post-harvest management scope and development nutri-gardens for nutrition security.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR- ATARI, Ludhiana highlighted the role of vegetable crops in doubling the farmer’s income by using advanced technologies. He cited many examples of Nutri-Smart Villages across states and urged KVKs to develop two Nutri-Smart Villages in each district for nutrition security at household level.

Dr TK Behera, Director, ICAR- IIVR, Banaras explained ways to increase the productivity of vegetable crops under changing climatic scenario at the field level and further its processing for increasing the profitability. Dr Behra also emphasized on scope for nutri-food under the current scenario of Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr, BVC Mahajan, Director, PHPTC, Ludhiana elaborated several success stories which earned huge profits by scientific management of vegetables. He emphasized that post harvest technologies and processing have to be given special importance in managing the situation such as glut of these crops.

Mr Rajnish Tuli, GM, Punjab Agro Industries, gave detailed information about the new Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises’ launched as a part of Aatmnirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.  

More than 150 stakeholders including progressive vegetable growers participated in the event. The Webinar was organised as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mohotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence. In the end, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, PC, KVK, Trantaran presented the formal vote of thanks.
