Special Swachhta Campaign celebrated across the zone during 2nd - 31st October 2021

ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, along with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Zone-I, have organised various activities under Swachhta Campaign during 02nd-31st October 2021. At the start of the campaign, all the officials and staff of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana and KVKs celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2021 by discussing on Ghandian ideology through various talks and webinars and also took Swachhta Pledge.

ICAR ATARI Ludhiana also organised webinar on 2nd Oct 2021 with the theme “Emerging Zoonoses: The One Health Paradigm” for creating awareness about the emerging diseases like COVID-19 and their preventive measures by hygiene and sanitation. On the similar line, another National Webinar on 08.10.2021by also organised by ATARI with the theme of “Crop Residue Management for Combating Climate Change” for sensitisation toward clean and green environment by proper utilization of crop residues.

Along with this various cleanliness and hygiene based activities were also undertaken with the active participation of officials, staff, farmers, farmwomen and village youth at Institute and KVK level. The key highlights includes a “Special Swachhta Campaign” on 6th October 2021 in which various activities like lectures and creating awareness on Crop Residue Management, protection and conservation of natural resources, clean and green environment, general cleanliness at home and at farm etc through various workshop, interface, mela, awareness programmes etc in various adopted villages were organised by KVK in collaboration with ATARI.

A giant Special Campaign was organised by KVKs on 12.10.2021 with the theme “Waste to Wealth” in which more than five thousands participants including official staff, farmers, civil society members, school children actively participated towards cleaning the environment and to create wealth from the trash collected. In the series of events under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, two campaigns were organized, namely Mahila Kisan Diwas on 15th October 2021 and “World Food Day” on 16th October 2021 along with the swachata campaign. Various competitions such as painting, slogan writing, debate, poster making and elocution were also organised with the different themes for School children. Awareness was created regarding sanitation & waste disposal into degradable & non-degradable form by ATARI and KVKs in various public places, villages under “Mera Goan Mera Gaurav” and other adopted villages under different projects. Awareness rallies were arranged in local communities and prominent places for creating sensitization among general public. On farm- demonstration about bio-waste management through vermi-composting and proper utilization of sewage water for kitchen gardening purpose were shown to the farmers by the KVKs. The beautification by plantation drive and de-weeding in the lawns, kitchen garden and demonstration farms were also carried out. 889 campaigns on no pending matters, grievances settlement, weeding out of files and waste disposal were also arranged and disposed 105 quintals of scrapping material.  Banners in front of Institute’s main building and various slogans at prominent places near the campus were also displayed for public awareness during the campaign.
