Delegation from Nepal visits ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana

A nine-member delegation led by Hon’ble Provincial Minister Mr. Bijay Kumar Yadav, Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOLMAC), Government of Nepal visited ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-1, Ludhiana, Punjab.

At the outset, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana Dr. Rajbir Singh, welcomed the delegation and apprised them about the national scenario of agricultural extension system particularly in reference to KVK system. He has also given a brief of various activities carried about by ATARI and KVK in the zone for the welfare of the farming community.

During the interaction officials from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, representatives from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ludhiana and Moga and their progressive farmers along with staff member of the ATARI were also present. Progressive farmers and trainees of KVK also had a fruitful interaction with the delegates. A round of exposure visits to other sister Institutes was also conducted to apprise the delegates of the various activities conducted by them.

Field visits to honey processing equipment manufacturing and processing unit run by a progressive beekeeper Sh. Jatinder Jeet Pal in Doraha along with KVK Ludhina were organized to give them a practical overview of the KVK system. The honey production enterprise was well appreciated by the visitors and offered them to explore possible intervention in his country also.

The delegation showed keen interest in various demonstration units, Technology Park, rainwater harvesting structures and micro sprinkler system, machinery unit, biogas production and soil testing lab at the KVK. The delegation actively interacted with the progressive farmers associated with the KVK during the exhibition organized by them. They have also discussed about the various issues of mutual interest and benefit with regard to new agricultural reforms to be replicated in their country especially w.r.t Self Help Group model for women empowerment as well as promotion of bee keeping at a larger scale. The delegation expressed gratitude to the ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana for all the arrangements and making their visit fruitful.
