celebrates Van Mahotsav on
5th July 2024
Van
Mahotsav, the annual tree-planting festival of India, was
celebrated with great enthusiasm at the ICAR – Agricultural Technology
Application Research Institute (ICAR-ATARI), Ludhiana on 5th July
2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of trees in
maintaining ecological balance and to encourage the community to participate in
tree planting activities.
The event was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr Satbir Singh
Gosal, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana who
emphasised the significance of Van
Mahotsav and the critical role of trees in combating climate
change and promoting sustainable agriculture.
A tree planting drive was
organised on the institute's premises. Over 100 saplings of various
native species were planted wherein distinguished guests viz. Dr Inderjeet
Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana; Dr Manoj Kumar, Commissioner
(GST), Ludhiana; Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana; Dr
P.S. Brar, Director (Extension Education), GADVASU, Ludhiana and Dr M.S.
Bhullar, Director (Extension Education), PAU, Ludhiana had also planted
trees along with ICAR-ATARI Officials. All participants took a pledge to
plant and nurture trees, emphasising their commitment to environmental
protection and sustainable living.
On this propitious occasion Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director of the
institute, said that the Van
Mahotsav celebration at ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana brought together
individuals from various walks of life to celebrate and promote the importance
of trees. The event not only contributed to the greening of the environment but
also reinforced the institute's commitment to sustainable agricultural
practices and environmental stewardship.
