Orientation Course on “Frontline Extension System for Young KVK Professionals” Concludes Successfully in ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Ludhiana, successfully concluded a five-day orientation course titled “Frontline Extension System for Young KVK Professionals” today. Held from January 20 to January 24, 2025, the program aimed to empower newly appointed Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Zone-I with essential skills to address emerging agricultural challenges and drive sustainable development.

The event featured an esteemed lineup of guests, including Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director of ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, alongside scientists and staff members from the institute.

In his welcome address, Dr. Sheoran highlighted the program's importance in building the capacity of new SMSs and ensuring their seamless integration into the KVK system. He praised the achievements of KVKs in Zone-I, which spans Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh, and emphasized the significance of foundational training for young professionals. He urged participants to dedicate themselves to their roles, expressing confidence that their efforts would bring transformative change to the KVK system in addressing emerging challenges and opportunities.

Dr. Kotwaliwale underscored the vital role of orientation programs in preparing professionals to meet the expectations of the farming community. He emphasized the importance of KVK interventions focusing on farmer- and consumer-centric solutions, particularly in the areas of processing and value addition, which he identified as critical for the future.

The course featured interactive sessions, expert lectures, and field visits designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the frontline extension system. A total of 29 young professionals from Zone-I actively engaged in the program, gaining insights into innovative approaches for addressing grassroots agricultural challenges.

With smiles of accomplishment and enriched knowledge, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the program, which is expected to have a lasting impact on their professional journey.
